Your Own Fuel
Last century,
our Grandparents used to grow fuel as a part of their crop rotation...oaten
hay to feed their horses! A hundred years later and using the same
concept, Yarrock Oils and Wimmera Biodiesel, are offering primary
producers a unique opportunity to become involved in a “paddock
to pump” fuel production agreement, and once again grow fuel as
a part of their crop rotation.
Under the agreement, participating
growers simply grow and deliver Mustard seed or Canola to a nominated
delivery centre. The grower then has an entitlement to take back
delivery of a clean diesel fuel alternative, Biodiesel.
We do the rest.
As licensed producers
we will manufacture Biodiesel that meets the Australian standard,
and will meet all excise obligations leaving growers free to do
what they do best...farm.
What are the grower
agreements?
We have two types of agreements
available for both mustard and canola growers, the “closed loop
production agreement” and a “fixed tonnage processing agreement”.
What are the advantages
of Mustard seed for Biodiesel?
Mustard seed grown for
Biodiesel has several advantages.
- It is cheap to grow and has a similar oil content to short season
Canola varieties
- Requires little or no additional nitrogen, and has low nutrient
demands in comparison to Canola. Very similar fertiliser requirements
to growing wheat
- Short growing season, can be late sown in June to late July
- Increases weed control options including cultivation, heavy
grazing and non selective herbicide options (e.g. Roundup, glyphosate)
- A good break crop and an effective bio fumigant
- High tolerance to drought, frost and insect damage, (once established)
- No need to windrow and can be direct headed
